Step 2

Classroom Volunteering & Mentoring

Child reading Step 2 offers more opportunities for volunteers to be involved in the lives of the neighborhood kids. This has proven to be very effective in the improvement of academics and behavior. These relationships help create consistent and positive influence in their lives.

Classroom Volunteering

Working in the classroom gives volunteers the opportunity to interact with the students and staff while helping with a variety of duties, including assessment testing, reading fluency and other tutorial duties. Volunteers can assist in existing after school programs or establish new ones, helping in a variety of areas such as recreational, academic and art enrichment activities.

Mentoring

Adults are matched up with students in their partnering school through our partnership with Police Activities League (PAL). Mentors commit to spending one-on-one time with their students, building a foundation of friendship while setting an example of good character, thus offering a unique opportunity to invest in the life of a child.  -mentoring application-
