Saturday Sports at Summer Park

When driving through an apartment complex, you rarely see much activity outside on a warm Fresno day.  But nestled in a grassy area under some big trees were tables and chairs and lots of kids hanging out with volunteers from The Word Community Church.  Some kids were sitting at tables coloring, one of the volunteers was reading a book to others and anyone who was listening.  You could see kids jumping rope, and in an area about 1/4 of the size of a football field, a bunch of kids…

Columbia Neighborhood Clean-up

Church volunteers, parents of students and residents in the Columbia school district gathered on Saturday to clear out some flowerbeds along the streets in one block of that area. This diverse group not only got some much needed work done but they also made some new friends along the way. It was a great way to see three different sectors come together for the unified vision of a single purpose - to make their neighborhood just a little nicer looking for everyone to enjoy. They plan to continue…

Community Engagement in the Form of Block Parties

During the summer months, community engagement is a big part of our partnerships' outreaches.  This past Saturday there were two impactful block parties that were a blessing to our city. In southwest Fresno, St. Rests Church blocked off the street to host a family-oriented day.  There was live music, face painting and even a dunk tank.  The kids were having a great time with all the activities while the parents were engaged in healthy conversations with each other.  There…

. . . What Kid Doesn't Want to Be a Hero?

A grant from the Fresno Regional Foundation will help ENP implement and expand the Heroes Program so it can offered to more children in Fresno neighborhoods. The Heroes program started about 5 years ago at Lowell Elementary and has been offered to students at several Fresno Schools.  The program targets at-risk students who are having the most difficulty in school (academics, behavior, attendance, relationships), giving them an opportunity to be a part of something positive - something…
