On the evening of Friday, September 2nd, a group of parents and kids gathered for dinner at the Sunset Community Center. Volunteers from Westside Church of God and the Fresno Street Saints wanted to connect with the some of the families from the Sunset Elementary neighborhood who were hand picked by the school because they had a need for backpacks and school supplies for their kids.
However the more important purpose was to build new friendships with the families and inform them of all the outreaches at the Center, as well as the Saturday Sports program at the school. The parents were very pleased to learn about all that was going on, both at the Center and on the school campus. The community was served and the kids walked away with some cool stuff and smiles on heir faces!
. . .
Over the past year this community center has been undergoing some renovations with the help of many volunteers from the community. It's exciting to see it being used to support families, engage the youth in meaningful activities and serve as such a valuable resource in the neighborhood!
