When Principal Kim Collins spoke to the congregation at Valley Christian Center on Sunday, she shared the need and the opportunities for volunteers to invest in Norseman Elementary and in the lives of the children. Several People from VCC served as academic mentors last year by volunteering in the classroom just a few hours a week. They also brought treats for the staff, and at the end of the year a group from the church helped several retiring teachers who needed to move out of their classrooms.
On Sunday an invitation was shared with the entire church to walk alongside the students and staff at Norseman. Within a few weeks, more volunteers will be on campus making new friends with some awesome Norseman kids. They will have the chance to give some assistance to students who need a little more help academically and will quickly become their "cheerleader". It's amazing how a welcoming smile and little encouragement can make so much difference to a child! The church is also talking about starting a Saturday Sports Program at Norseman which would be another great way to build relationships with families.
. . .
Valley Christian Center is in the neighborhood and their heart is there, too. This deeper connection will be an encouragement to the school for sure, but most likely we will hear volunteers say that they are the ones being blessed by the opportunity to play a role in the educational, social and emotional growth of children.
The great people at Valley Christian Center have a new opportunity to "love their neighbor". This is a partnership to watch because their desire is to do just that!!
