Jefferson Saturday Sports has started up again, and like last year - a bunch of neighborhood kids show up ready to have fun and hang out with friends! Devon and Joel lead up the program at Jefferson. Assisting them are volunteers from the Fresno State Communications Class, and some new ROTC students, also from Fresno State.
This past week there were about 20 fewer kids than normal which gave them a little more one-on-one attention from the volunteers. Two ladies who came to help out, sat with the kids and made bracelets, while a spirited soccer game went on with most of the boys.
Since they have been doing a service outreach project twice a month, Joel and Devon decided to create a"Good Deeds Board" where they would track the kids who participated in projects. At the end of the quarter they plan on doing something special with the kids who participated regularly. The kids were excited to see the new board and will likely be motivated to continue being involved in their community. This week they will do another "outreach" and plan on having the kids talk to people who live near the school about why they do so much to keep their neighborhood clean.
. . .
Not only are there a lot of great volunteers investing in kids at Jefferson . . . these kids are learning early about investing in their neighborhood. Can't get much better than that!
