We are really pumped up over here at Pyle. So many awesome things are either happening or just about to start. We were averaging about 25 kids each Saturday last year, and this year we've been having any where from 30 to 40; we actually had 55 one Saturday not to far back. That's more little brains to fill with Jesus juice, which is ridiculously exciting, but that's not all.
Being a part of the community is something that is at the top of our to do list. We don't want to just be outsiders who drive in on Saturday. At Pyle, we believe in the radical, redemptive, holistic love of Jesus; and that's so much more than two Saturdays a month. We are trying to figure out what a big love looks like in the Pyle neighborhood; the kind of love that wraps you up and knocks you down, and gets people swallowed by fish. We've got a few ideas so far.
We figure that kind of love would have Saturday Sports every weekend if it could, and so we're gonna try it. Trying new things is scary but we've got Jesus so we'll be o.k., even if we fail. That starts on April 10th, and let me tell you, I'm pretty excited about it. Our reasoning is that if we spend more time with the kids more Jesus will rub off on them. I'm no math genius, but that equation feels solid to me.
The awesome sauce doesn't end there either. More and more people from the Bridge are coming every week. I see new faces all the time and I love it. Last Saturday Sports we had a team of Recreation students come out from Fresno State. They wanted to help us get ideas for what kind of games the kids really want to play. They brought up the idea of having a relay race course one Saturday. I am all over that idea; I will definitely have some fun in our relay race.
There is one more scheme we're working on over at Pyle. We are convinced that a big, giant love would have community meetings to help us connect with the parents. So that is our project for next semester. We want to start the dialogue and open the channels, because in the words of Bono, "I go there with you. It's all I can do."
That's it from Pyle,
