Serving Our Neighborhoods

Where Can You Find Food On Good Friday?

Fresno Unified has been hard at work serving meals to 40,000 – 50,000 individuals every day (see sites here). We know Central, Clovis, Sanger, and the surrounding districts are working just as hard! But as you may have heard there will be no school meal distributions happening on Friday. We wanted to share a list of sites we know will be distributing food. Please let us know if you know of any more by emailing info@everyneighborhood.org.

Discover Fresno exposes community to city needs, volunteer opportunities

The Well Community Church partners with local organizations to promote municipal revitalization

Original Post by Addison Schultz on The Feather Online, reprinted with permission

The City of Fresno suffers as one of the worst cities for poverty concentration in the nation. Of the 500,000 residents from around the globe that inhabit Fresno, 28.2 percent live under the national poverty line. Moved by the city’s statistics, organizations gather together to attempt to mobilize the community for action.

Fixing Roads Starts With Building Community in West Fresno

Over the course of 2019 ENP has helped facilitate community conversations in the West Fresno elementary neighborhood. It started with school staff and community organizations near the school to eventually working with over 40 residents meeting on a monthly basis in the school cafeteria.

The first priority the residents had was the road and traffic conditions around the school site.

Experiencing Christian Community Development

Fresno is a unique city filled with the ebb and flow of people from different cultures, communities, and backgrounds. As an intern for Every Neighborhood Partnership, this summer I witnessed how different cultures and community members are coming together to make a difference through building each other up. Community leaders, teachers, pastors, and residents are all part of the process to bring change in Fresno. This is primarily founded on Christian Community Development. This philosophy says change is evoked in the community when it is done holistically. John Perkins coined this ideology and came up with the three R’s of community development (Relocate, Reconciliation, and Redistribution).

2019 Fresno Christian Serve Day

Students cultivate growth, aid areas of need

(Original Article)

Before heading to various serve locations, students attended a brief rally where they were encouraged by faculty, March 12.

For the sixth consecutive year, the Fresno Christian HS and JH student body engaged in Serve Day, March 12. While JH stayed on campus to complete various work projects, all of HS packed up after first period, attended a quick rally before loading up in buses, and heading out to various different locations across the city to serve. Over 260 campus students participated in this year’s event.

Relationships Through Dance Fitness

Music, movement, fitness, and fun! When you go into a Latin Dance Fitness class you can expect to have fun and break a good sweat. What you don’t expect are the relationships that are built through time spent in the class. With common interests such as the love of music, dance, and exercise, there are so many ways to connect with others. Not only that, but dance fitness is an outlet for mental wellness. Most participants are able to share the happiness they feel while taking the class and are worry free during the hour long session. This one hour of dancing allows them to take care of themselves physically and mentally. It is also a shared space with others who have the same fitness goal.

Luis Palau Series 2: Theology of Place

Every Neighborhood Partnership is partnering with the Luis Palau National group to create a six-month series that describes our work in the city. Below is the second post in the series from the Director of Neighborhood Development, German Quinonez.

Theology of Place:  ENP’s Neighborhood Development Work

Last month Artie Padilla set a platform on our work in Fresno and how we use the Church as an anchoring lever for all the work we are actively engaged in. This month we zero in on the work that is happening in our neighborhoods through Theology of Place.

We will first look our methodology, then we will share some practical examples of how this plays out.
