Here’s what a typical Saturday Sports morning looks like!
- 8:50–9:15: Check-in and registration
- 9:15–9:20: A warm welcome, opening talk, and prayer
- 9:20–10:20: Sports, games, crafts, and outdoor play
- 10:20–10:25: Campus cleanup
- 10:25–10:45: Bible story or character-building message
- 10:45–10:55: Lunches passed out to every child
- 10:55–11:10: Students eat on site or take lunch home
Some sites are hosted by local churches, while others are led by community partners or volunteers who’ve built relationships with the neighborhood and school. ENP provides everything needed to launch and sustain a site—training, equipment, guidance, insurance, and a connection to a nearby campus.
Impact of Saturday Sports
The impact of Saturday Sports goes far beyond games and sack lunches. Here are three stories demonstrating why we exist:
Anthony’s Story
When Anthony first met Marcel at Saturday Sports more than a decade ago, it was just one Saturday. One basketball game. One hour of being fully present.
But that simple act of showing up—week after week—turned into something much bigger: a 12-year friendship built on trust, consistency, and care.
Ray’s Story
At Powers-Ginsburg Elementary, Saturday Sports has been a steady part of the neighborhood for over a decade. For many students, it’s more than a weekend activity—it’s a place where adults consistently show up and care.
Some volunteers go far beyond the two-hour Saturday program. They attend students’ football games, theater performances, and school events—often when no one else does.
Ray, a student who’s been involved at the site for years, said: “Every Friday night they go to watch me play… Yeah, I love them…”
Heidi’s Story
Heidi Hernandez grew up in West Fresno and later served as a Saturday Sports coordinator nearby at Lincoln Elementary. In her words:
“I’m helping at least 1 child. But that one child will think about it for the rest of their life.”
Get Involved with Saturday Sports!
We believe every child in Fresno should have a safe place to play, and every neighborhood deserves to feel seen and supported. You can be a part of that.
Whether you’re an individual looking to volunteer or a church ready to host a site, we’ll walk with you every step of the way.

I love how Saturday Sports not only provides kids with a safe place to play, but also builds consistency and connection through mentorship and shared meals. It’s such a powerful reminder that sometimes the simplest investment—just showing up for an hour—can create stability and joy in a child’s week. I’d be curious to hear how local communities can help sustain this momentum beyond Saturday mornings.
