IMPACT in the Ericson Neighborhood

The following story of was shared by Dave Standley. He and his wife Tish are Partnership Leaders in the Ericson neighborhood with Valley Dream Center.

A year ago it was on my heart for the Valley Dream Center and Gangland Redemption to launch an Adopt-A-Block on the 4800 Block of East University, and as part of that vision I wanted to partner with Every Neighborhood Partnership to set up a Saturday Sports program at Ericson Elementary at the west border to the East University neighborhood.

A year later without any prompting from me, God put the same desire on the heart of another man (Pastor Daniel, at Casa Shalom), who started the program which launched this past Saturday.

Sixty kids from all over the neighborhood joined us for soccer, flag football and various other activities including arts & crafts. The thing that struck me most is when a small child said, “I’m hungry” because he knew that sack lunches would be given away at the end of the two hour program. It gave me great joy to see folks that represented over four different churches participated in this awesome program which takes place every other Saturday coming together to share the love of Christ with these children, and my little buddy got his sack lunch!
