Before working with Every Neighborhood Partnership (ENP), Sheng Xiong says she felt she was at her lowest point in life. Her job at a fast food restaurant made it difficult for her to balance her college and work responsibilities.
When Sheng received a message to her Fresno State email about an opportunity to work with elementary-aged kids through ENP, “it felt like fate.”
Sheng is now an ENP Site Lead at Olmos Elementary School, helping to lead a group of volunteers working with students as literacy mentors and Saturday Sports volunteers. “I feel like I’ve grown as a leader and become a better version of myself,” says Sheng. College Student Work Opportunities with ENP
From 2017-2023, about 700 college students have worked in Fresno elementary schools through ENP’s Literacy Mentoring, Read Fresno after-school, and Saturday Sports programs.
We believe connecting college students with the needs in Fresno elementary schools and equipping them to be part of sustainable solutions will create a more vibrant future for our city.

“[In our programs], college students learn time management, adaptability, and planning,” says Andrea Ricci, “They also have an opportunity to work with people from different backgrounds and cultures than they may have in the past.”
ENP is partnered with different programs to provide opportunities for Fresno college students. Each program has a different list of eligibility requirements, time commitment, and application process.
