How to Become a Fresno Unified Vendor: A Guide for Community Partners

At Every Neighborhood Partnership, we believe in equipping community-based organizations to deepen their impact. One major opportunity we see is helping grassroots and faith-based groups become approved vendors with Fresno Unified School District (FUSD) — particularly through its Community Schools initiative.

To support this, I recently co-hosted a workshop with Darrin Person, Director of Community Schools for FUSD. Our goal: demystify the RFQ process and help local organizations navigate their way into becoming trusted partners with the district.

Here’s a quick recap of what we covered — and how you can get started.

Sabbatical Reflections

I am back. You may not have known, but I took a 9-week sabbatical. Wanted to share publically a couple of reflections, learning lessons, and some takeaways.

General Reflections:

Just want to start off with a big thank you. This sabbatical could only be possible because of the staff, board, and community that supports ENP. This is a new practice for us as an organization and the first time for me. Because of such a professional, knowledgeable, and trustworthy staff, I could leave knowing that things would be handled. Thank you.

The 1 sentence summary is… that I had a lot of fun with my family, deepened the focus on my marriage, learned more about myself, and put into place some spiritual practices that can help anchor me in the next season of work at ENP and life in general.

See you in 9 weeks.

“Most of us are more tired than we know at the soul level. We are teetering on the brink of dangerous exhaustion, and we cannot do anything else until we have gotten some rest…we can’t really engage [any spiritual disciplines] until solitude becomes a place of rest for us rather than another place for human striving and hard work.”
― Ruth Haley Barton, Sacred Rhythms: Arranging Our Lives for Spiritual Transformation

If you email me from Thursday, June 15th till Monday, August 21st, you will get an away message.

I am on a sabbatical.

What the heck is a sabbatical?

Social Capital and Economic Mobility

Over the last 3+ years, ENP has been a part of a local initiative called The Fresno D.R.I.V.E. Initiative (Developing the Region’s Inclusive and Vibrant Economy).  One of the central values is that together we want to create an inclusive, vibrant, and sustainable economy for residents in the greater Fresno region.

We know that Fresno lags behind in economic development and what we have learned over the years is that we are one of the least economically mobile cities in the United States. So how do we change that?

In Fresno As It Is In Heaven

Not everyone ENP partners with comes from a faith background, but we all have a moral vision. We wanted to design something that represents the theological and moral vision of ENP.

The Biblical Story is really a story about two spaces: God’s space and humanity’s space. It is the Biblical Story of God’s mission and vision to reunite all humanity with Himself. In the Garden of Eden, God’s space and humanity’s space were one. But when sin and brokenness entered the world, those spaces separated. Injustice, pain, poverty, and disunity entered the picture.

Jesus is on a mission to bring them together once and for all. As an organization, we long for a city that reflects Jesus’ prayer: “your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

Revelation 21 tells us that one day God’s space and humanity’s space will completely overlap.

As the Lord prayed, until the final vision becomes a reality, we get to work to see glimpses of heaven here in Fresno.

Thank you to Shelby King for bringing our vision of this design to life!  She can be reached at shelbyking.art@gmail.com

Juneteenth LivingUNDIVIDED Celebration

Join ENP in celebrating Juneteenth with LivingUNDIVIDED! Join us Monday, June 20, 9:00-10:30am.

Juneteenth is a symbolic representation of the change that can be made when we come together. We celebrate and recognize the important place it has in our national history and on our federal calendar because we know God’s heart for Jubilee.

The time for action is now! LivingUNDIVIDED Summer and Fall cohorts aren’t too far off and this is the time for you to be the hero your community needs. Use your influence to rally some people together for the LivingUNDIVIDED or WorkingUNDIVIDED experiences. When you’re interested in talking to someone about hosting a cohort, let us know. My team is at the ready to walk alongside you as you lead others toward racial healing, solidarity and justice.

Register for One Small Step

If you are like me, you sense a growing divide in our country, state, and cities. We are at each other’s throats!

ENP has always been about the work of creating spaces for people from various backgrounds to cross paths, build relationships, and co-create the community that we want to live in.

ENP and StoryCorps welcomes residents in the Fresno/Central Valley area to apply to be matched with fellow residents from across the political divide for conversations about their lives – not about politics – through One Small Step. The conversation invites two people who don’t know each other—and may not think they have anything in common—to take a moment to discover their shared humanity. Let’s heal our community one courageous conversation at a time.

2021 Annual Report

A Note from the Executive Director

In those brief check-in conversations, I have with people in the hallway, I am often asked, “How is ENP? What have you all been up to?” Honestly, I haven’t gotten better at summarizing our work to a 1 to 2 sentence response. There is so much to say!

How do you summarize the impact of hundreds of literacy mentors who support kids’ educational and emotional development? How do you summarize residents beginning to know themselves and the power and knowledge they have to change their communities? How do you summarize the numerous church, CBO, and other partners we have worked with around Trauma/Resilience, Digital Equity, Land Use Planning, Church Equipping, and/or Racial Justice? Sometimes all I can say is, “We have an amazing team and great partners and the work is going well.”

I hope as you scan this report that you get a sense of all that has happened, that you see the work being done and the reason your support and investment in ENP is worth every penny. Thank you for partnering with us to activate our schools and neighborhoods!

2020 Annual Report

A Note from the Executive Director

Every way that I would start this report could sound silly and trite. Let me just say that 2020 was radical. 2020 was a year of transition for ENP.

  • Moving from our founder, Artie Padilla to myself.
  • This year moved us into new spaces like food distributions and virtual engagement.
  • As a staff we have been focused on growing in our understanding of how Trauma affects the families in our neighborhoods AND how we become more resilient to the daily stress of poverty and all of its results.
  • This year as a team we had to put into play a lot of those strategies for ourselves and our organization.

I am proud to say that we have come through it. Here is our reflection on 2020. We are grateful for your support and belief in this work.
